Welcome to the site of the Polish Origami Center!

Drawing on the experience of our society’s members as well as the passion of numerous devotees of paper-folding art in Poland, we hereby would like to present a reliable source of information and knowledge about origami. Perhaps we will also be able to give you some inspiration to engage in folding paper on your own.

Enchanted with a very useful idea of promoting origami art as a form of support to children’s and youth’s development, we have visited schools, kindergartens, community clubs and educational centers for 15 years as yet, with an aim to fold both simple and complex models so that origami becomes a developmental experience of the young Poles.

It is just such practices that we were personally encouraged to by an American origami artist Rae Cooker who as early as in 1988 sent very interesting materials on the subject of origami art to our founding group. Following her clues and our own contacts with pedagogues, psychologists and research workers, together with considerable support from the Polish Children and Youth Foundation, we have elaborated a comprehensive program concerning activities related to the promotion of origami art in Poland.

It became clear to us that origami is an art of order and harmony, art of concentration and balance, an active play leading to self-awareness, a path to philosophy. Following in the footsteps of Akira Yoshizawa, a great master of origami, precursor of modern paper folding techniques, poet, story-teller and good man, we are guided by his message: ‘For when we use our hands effectively, our hearts are most at peace’.

We invite you to visit our site, which will hopefully grow to be an active forum of exchanging experiences of many origami enthusiasts.

XVIIIth International Conference
Origami in Education and Therapy
Warsaw – 27.10.2007 r.

This year’s conference will be held in honour of the outstanding Origami Master, Akira Yoshizawa, and its focus will be Japanese history, culture and tradition. The reason for such choice is the 50th Anniversary of Resumption of Diplomatic Relations between Poland and Japan. We are very proud that the Origami Festival Poland 2007 will be held under the auspices of the Embassy of Japan in Poland which supports the Polish Origami Centre in their efforts to popularise the art of paperfolding in our country. We would like this year’s conference to be the time of encounter for pedagogues, students, tutors and all the participants of KOTE XVIII with the great Japanese masters’ design. You are most welcome!

Godzina "O" - Papierowe mandale 24 września 2007 r. Kolejny raz Polskie Centrum Origami zaprasza wszystkich chętnych na wielkie składanie pt. Papierowe mandale. Inspiracją do tej zabawy stały się kolorowe papierowe mandale wykonane przez instruktora naszego stowarzyszenia, Panią Urszulę Wojnarowicz z Piły, które od początku Festiwalu Origami Polska 2007 podróżują jako eksponaty ogólnopolskiej wystawy. ORIGAMI MANDALA Szanowni Państwo! Rozpoczęliśmy Festiwal Origami Polska 2007 wielkim składaniem. Składały przedszkolaki, dzieci i młodzież szkolna, studenci, a wraz z nimi nauczyciele i wiele innych osób, które od lat bawią się sztuką origami w Polsce. Osobiście rozpoczęłam festiwal pięciominutową przerwą w pracy. Udało mi się właśnie w tej przerwie złożyć figurkę, którą bardzo lubię. Nie jest ani trudna, ani zupełnie łatwa, ale bardzo ważna dla mnie. To czerwony smok. Wiele lat temu swoje pierwsze próby uczenia dzieci sztuki origami rozpoczęłam właśnie od składania smoków. Smoki, tak charakterystyczne dla kultury Dalekiego Wschodu, są modelami chętnie składanymi przez miłośników origami. Są również ciekawym tematem dla mistrzów, którzy modele tworzą. Dzisiaj wróciłam do wielkiego mistrza Akiro Yoshizawy, z którego modelem chciałabym Państwa zapoznać. Może warto spróbować złożyć ten model, może jak w chińskiej zodiakalnej galerii zwierząt za smokiem kroczyć będą i inne modele, cały rok z miesiąca na miesiąc budując wystawę prezentującą sztukę origami i jej wiele wartościowych wymiarów.
